ACME Cats Rescue Ranch

2025 marks ACRR’s 6th year as a 501(c)(3) charity, although we were rescuing cats long before then. Starting with acquiring our ranch back in 2009 we began rescuing and fostering a fluctuating number of felines, both inside and as part of our closely managed outdoor colony. Over time, we have come to realize our calling is in "special needs" cats of all flavors: Cerebellar Hypoplasia ("wobbly cats"), chronic illnesses such as diabetes, mobility issues, loss of limbs, allergies, and even gunshot wound victims and spinal injuries. And then there are the so-called "unplace-ables" with nowhere else to go - seniors, ferals, and "un-handleable" all have found a forever home here. We “Save the Weirdos” who simply don't have alternatives or need special care. And with rare exception, when a cat comes to the ranch, they stay at the ranch. That being said, we also find ourselves with the occasional foster: a mama and kittens in distress, a friendly stray needing medical attention, even caring for deployed soldier's special needs cat. Even though they are only here temporarily, they receive the same quality care, love and attention we provide all our cats.

This year we continue to plan for the future of the Ranch. To this end, we are exploring establishing a building fund to enable us to invest in needed infrastructure – everything from short-term needs such as external porch heaters and a climate-controlled cabin or enclosure to provide our outside colony with better year-round comfort and protection, to our ultimate DREAM goal: building a new free-standing barndominium-style facility that would provide both state-of-the-art facilities for cat care and live-in quarters for a future ACRR manager. Currently, everything is going in the general fund and our emphasis is on ensuring we have the funds to care for the 30+ resident cats.

Thanks to the generous donations from so many supporters, we’ve helped a lot of cats in our 6 years: with your help, we plan to continue and even expand what we are able to do in the future.

Thanks to donor support, we’ve built "The Parker Porch", a large enclosed catio on the back of the house especially for our inside cats' enrichment and enjoyment. The porch is named after Parker, a severe CH boy lost to us a few years ago, who came to us as a kitten and with his immobility encouraged us to find creative ways to enrich his world and live his best life. This is in addition to the small window catio currently on the dedicated "Rilee Room" in memory of Rilee, a street boy who came to us scruffy, sickly and untouchable and became a total love bug. The room now functions to intake and separate cats who may need special care or who don't do well in the more open “dorm” environment of the main house. We also foster mamas and kittens in the Rilee Room from time to time – Uncle Rilee loved the kittens.

Contemplating the cost of construction of new facilities formidible. Just the expenses of medications, food, litter, routine vet visits, supplies add up. Our current monthly costs total +/- $2,000, not including special or emergency vet costs. While we dream of our infrastructure goals, or emphasis is on providing for the cats in our care. We're looking to you to help us continue the mission we've begun: to save, shelter, and protect these so-called unplace-ables, unlove-ables and Weirdos with nowhere else to go, and through your donations guide our path into the future. We hope you'll help.
